More Than Shelter Services Inc. is hosting its 2008 More Than Shelter Awards Dinner at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City. We will join our Master of Ceremonies Henry Cisneros, Former Secretary of Housing & Urban Development, in honoring Patricia A. Means, President/CEO, Turning Point URBAN Magazine, Sergio Rascon, Business Manager of Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local #300, and Zev Yaroslavsky, Los Angeles County Supervisor.

Because of the numbers struggling to meet their basic needs, there is a great need for the kinds of social services provided by More Than Shelter . And a great need for the donations of generous people interested in helping to perpetuate and grow these critical services.
Dating back to the very first affordable housing development created by the State’s Century Freeway Housing Program, our staff has always worked with developers and the adjacent community to include what we call More Than Shelter® amenities — services designed to assist residents, from toddlers to seniors, with their most critical needs. We believe that these More Than Shelter programs turn a building into a home and a development into a community.
This model was put in place by Judge Harry Pregerson , U.S. Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit. His vision from the bench for bringing services and housing to people in need is what drives the More Than Shelter philosophy today.
More Than Shelter services include After-School Tutoring Programs, Job Training and Placement, and Transitional Housing for Homeless Veterans. |
