The majority of our residents are from Cumberland County. Many are from outside the Carlisle area, but need to be in the borough (and nearby townships) to be closer to the many agencies that serve people experiencing homelessness. Approximately 12 percent of clients are from Dauphin County while another 5 percent are from adjoining Adams, Franklin, Perry and York counties.
Homelessness is a growing problem, not just in Cumberland County but across the country. Most communities cannot accommodate even the existing need for shelter, and the crisis continues to worsen. Long-term solutions include helping those who are currently experiencing homelessness to become self-sufficient.
However, they need warmth and shelter tonight! Without the stability that shelter provides, they will not benefit from these long-term solutions. Our goal is to give them a home base so they can start working towards a successful future.
